Augmented reality packaging concept to debut at Milan Design Week – Parcel and Postal Technology International
Integrated telecommunication company Deutsche Telekom will make its debut at Milan Design Week (June 6-12, 2022) to present its augmented reality packaging concept for technological products.
The packaging is characterized by a QR code. When the code is scanned with the video camera of a smartphone, it makes it possible to check the contents of the package, consult the instruction manual, check the product’s characteristics, launch the device and download the updates. This reduces the amount of paper, ink and processing tools required for technical manuals and packaging.
The concept was designed by the company’s design and customer experience team and design agency Layer. The product was created to demonstrate that augmented reality can aid the research of eco-sustainable solutions. Moreover, it offers the possibility to connect directly with the user and guide them toward a personalized experience of unboxing and product configuration. For this reason, Deutsche Telekom expects the product to rethink the entire production process and provide a complete and immersive experience to the user. The packaging was also designed to rethink the current way of designing the outer wrapping of a technological product so that the packaging becomes the conveyor of a new meaning. Rather than just a wrapper for preserving the contents, the companies wanted to make a tool to explain the product within the package and its functions. To address new scenarios and markets, Deutsche Telekom has opened a branch in Barcelona in Spain.
