Black-Owned Augmented Reality Platform Raises $1.2M In Pre-Seed Funding
Black-owned digital platform, InterApp, has raised $1.2 million in its pre-seed funding round. The funding round was led by Columbia-based investment firm WP Capital Group, an organization that focuses on emerging technologies for consumer engagement.
InterApp Inc., co-founded in 2016 by CEO William Brown, is an image recognition app that aims to make augmented reality (AR) a necessary tool for consumers.
Their work, specifically designed for graphic designers, transforms print into interactive AR experiences for consumers to enjoy. The platform transforms print packages and apparel graphics into augmented reality, ultimately transforming how brands interact with their audiences using AR. Their image recognition app for smart mobile devices is free on iTunes and Google Play’s store.
“Black brands have some of the most innovative, genius, and dopest products in the world, but most times [they are] underrepresented,” said CEO and co-founder William Brown.
“This round of funding will enable us to partner with some of these brands and leverage our resources and momentum to promote and bring these brands to the forefront, showcasing the utilization of InterApp.”
Over the past three years, the company has continued to rise through partnerships with brands like Rap Snacks and SXSW. The AR platform will use the funding to fulfill its vision of making augmented reality a necessary tool for consumers.
Growing a business as a Black founder and trying to achieve instant success and recognition can be challenging. Brown shares his advice for up-and-coming startups looking to expand and grow their business.
“No matter how long it takes, focus on your business as though the funding is in place, which means continue to develop and improve your product, build out and optimize your channels and keep your team focused on the tasks at hand.”
