Melbourne CBD Has a New Expansive Augmented Reality Art Trail

There is a new augmented reality art exhibition in Melbourne CBD dubbed AR. Trail. The immersive artwork trail is a product of a collaboration between Koorie Heritage Trust, Fed Square, NGV, and ACMI and is the largest free augmented reality art trail in the city.

The augmented reality art experience consists of 22 digital artworks including new commissions from celebrated Australian artists such as Ron Mueck, Reko Rennie, and Patricia Piccinini. The art trail also features works by international artists like Olafur Eliasson, KAWS, Koo Jeong, David Shrigley, Cao Fei, and Nina Chanel Abney.

To experience the immersive art trail, you first need to download the smartphone app. It is free of charge. The app features a menu of virtual artworks including architectural-sized moving images and small sculptures among others.

This is AR. Trail’s first experience in Australia. The AR art experience was developed by the London-based digital art studio Acute Art which is famous for its other highly successful augmented reality art exhibitions in various cities across the world including Singapore, London, New York, Tokyo, and others.

The AR art trail is supported by the Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund, a partnership with the City of Melbourne, and forms part of a $9.8 million package of creative events and experiences for Melbourne that attracts visitors to the city’s CBD.

The AR. Trail augmented reality art exhibition will run from 22 August to 30 September and will take place at Fed Square, NGV, Koorie Heritage Trust, and ACMI.

To explore the digital art, download the free Acute Art app on Google Play and Apple Store. For additional information about the digital art exhibition, check out .
