Slipknot Announce The Knotverse, a Metaverse and NFT Hub for the Maggots

Slipknot Announce The Knotverse, a Metaverse and NFT Hub for the Maggots

Earlier this month, eighteen-handed Iowan sex gorgon Slipknot began teasing something called ‘The Knotverse,’ which we hoped would be some sort of in-world narrative surrounding Slipknot like the MCU, but which we knew would ultimately be a NASCAR-type theatrical hybrid event relating to NFTs. And lo and behold, it’s the latter!

Slipknot have joined forces with The Sandbox to announced The Knotverse, a “a Web3 home for Slipknot and Knotfest metaverse experiences,” that will include…

…unique NFTs and generative collections, plus metaverse concerts, gaming experiences, fan experiences, unique collaborations, wearables and much more. It will ultimately offer fans of the heavy culture utility through unique access to new music, IRL events, festival experiences, merchandise, gear, masks, and more.

Says Slipknot’s Clown of the project (via Kerrang!):

“When I started playing Quake online in 1999 and Minecraft in 2011, it was another level. But at the time, I couldn’t have Sid [Wilson, Slipknot DJ] scratching next to me, I couldn’t offer visual art to fans. All we could do together was play the game. But little ideas like that are not only possible now, they barely scratch the surface. We are listening, we are watching, and we are going where our fans are leading us. And if you don’t understand or you’re worried, know that we’re going to help bring our fans along. We are getting in this for all of us, with all of us, and we can’t wait for you to see what we have coming up.”

I know I’m old and have a tenuous grip — at best — on concepts like NFTs and cryptocurrency, but I’ll be honest, this seems like a chat room. It seems like a great big chat room with customizable 3D avatars where you can spend money on stuff that doesn’t exist. And hey, maybe Slipknot fans will get access to all sorts of tangible goodies on the physical plane, but mostly I foresee a lot of people looking at their credit card statements, wondering what the fuck is going on, and then thinking, Oh, right, that fictional shirt bundle I bought while fucking amped after listening to “The Blister Exists.”
