Augmented Reality Livestreaming Application Beem Gets $4 Million in Funding | Immersive Technology

The era of Facetimes and video calls is ending with the advent of highly reliable augmented reality (AR) solutions. The latest AR development from a company called Beem enables individuals to beam themselves between devices. The startup has recently made an announcement regarding its consumer application and about gaining funding of $4 million. Its representatives expressed the long-term goal of consolidating the technology for yet to be designed augmented reality glasses.

AR technology has made itself familiar to the masses through social media channels such as Snapchat, and the famous game Pokémon GO on their cell phones. Many stores and online retailers also offer AR features for trying on makeup or helping people visualise how a piece of furniture will look within their interiors. However, the efforts being made by Beem can make AR accessible and useful for telepresence purposes.

Janosch Amstutz, CEO, Beem, is someone who did not have a lot of idea about technology growing up, due to him living in a quiet beach town in Australia. According to him, a lot of importance was given to straightforward and direct communication during his growing years when modern technology was almost non-existent.

Amstutz emphasised that although there have been a lot of advancements in terms of technology in the past decades, things have come to a halt of sorts post the advent of video communication technologies such as Skype and Zoom. He elaborated that Beem has a vision of bridging this gap by introducing AR solutions that go beyond the capabilities of conventional video call meetings.

Beem is offering an augmented reality-based live streaming solution that individuals can utilize for making their presence in meetings more dynamic. The inspiration behind this comes from Amstutz’s drive for tackling the challenges that prevent modern communication from advancing.

Beem has a team comprising of researchers and scientists to develop the augmented reality solution’s framework. This team includes Damian Hickey, Chief of Product, and Denis Islamov, who is the CTO and co-founder of the startup and comes from a physics and applied mathematics background.

The company, founded in 2017, was initially known as HoloMe. Back then it was not focused on building solutions for the consumer space. Instead, the company used to make campaigns and AR projects for many renowned brands such as H&M, Carolina Herrera, Forever 21, Vogue, Hermes, TEDx, Warner Music and LADBible, among others.

The technology offered by Beem has already been used for streaming art in augmented reality, facilitating AR-based live conferences, and delivering a wide range of experiences for its user base. All of these efforts have helped the company sustain itself, as it continued the research and development work on the AR conferencing technology. Beem is moving towards its collective objective of delivering solutions for consumers.

The most recent version of the Beem application was launched in February with the aim of delivering three-dimensional live augmented reality experiences for the needs of consumers. More news about the offering is expected in the near future.
