Google Update: What Is Augmented Reality And How Can It Be Used To Guide Your Shopping? | Junaid Tariq Blog – Award Winning Digital Marketer

In order to bring the shopping experience online, we brought AR shopping on Google to life. We were able to bring out all the beauty and atmosphere of a store — reflect light, scents and sound.

Find your foundation shade

Foundation is a personal makeup item and an important part of most people’s daily routine. It’s one of the most-searched cosmetic products on the market, but when you’re shopping for foundation, photos of models don’t always reflect its true colors. Just because someone looks good in a particular photo doesn’t necessarily mean they look good in your skin tone too. That makes it difficult to pick colors and shades that are right for you. More than 60% of online shoppers have decided not to purchase cosmetics or beauty items online because they didn’t know what color or shade would flatter them, and 41% have returned items because it was the wrong shade for their skin tone.

We’re excited to announce a new AR shopping feature that makes it much easier for you to find your foundation match. Our new photo library features models representing an assortment of skin tones, age groups, genders and face shapes. Google’s technology is one of the main reasons we’re able to make this feature possible, helping you better visualize what different brands look like on you.

Here’s how it works: Search for a foundation shade on Google across a range of prices and brands, like “Clinique Even Better Foundation.” In addition to seeing before and after looks from models with similar skin tones, you’ll see what the foundation appears like in videos. This helps you decide which one you like best so you can purchase it easily. Simply select your preferred retailer and make your purchase.

A video shows models of different skin tones applying foundation digitally. After the frame zooms out, headshots of 148 models are shown.

Try out products in 3D and AR

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be adding AR features to our website. You can now shop for sneakers using the 3D rendering of a shoe, but you’ll have to wait until today. You’ll have the ability to spin or zoom in on the shoes and see what colors, laces, treads or soles are available before buying them so you can make sure they fit with your personal style.

You can try these great brands that we’ve gotten in touch with today and more coming soon—like Merrell, Saucony and VANS. Simply type in a keyword like “shop blue VANS,” then tap the Search button at the top of the screen to view products in your space.

As the popularity of 3D images and spaces has increased, brands are starting to take advantage of them. However, creating and quality 3D version of a product can be time-consuming and expensive. We’ll expand our use of this technology in the coming months with new ways to create engaging and fun 3D spins.

Without being there in person, managing all your online shopping can be a challenge. Make it easier with these features that pack all the wow factor you miss about your favorite stores into an online experience.
