Sparkling water company launches Street Fighter 2 promotion with a funny music video and an augmented reality game
Capcom certainly doesn’t shy away from licensing out the Street Fighter franchise for a variety of different games, clothing, products and services, but this one is possibly the oddest yet most charming that we’ve seen.
The Japanese company Suntory Beverage & Food announced a special collaboration today pairing Street Fighter 2 with their ‘THE STRONG’ sparkling water by releasing special anniversary water bottles, a funny music video and even an augmented reality game to boot.
Suntory’s music video edits in a bunch of water bottles into the iconic fighting game to appear in the background or even have a headbutt showdown with E. Honda.
They remixed the original theme with Japanese composer Kenichi Maeyamada, who you may know from anime openings / endings in series like One Piece, Nichijou, Hunter x Hunter and more, including added lyrics like “Hey! Hey! Strong Fighter! Keep Bubbly! Make a Future Sparkling!”
As for the special product, Suntory is producing 100 limited edition packages designed to look like the original SF2 console version boxes with the world warriors getting extra hydrated, which contains 2 bottles of THE STRONG featuring logos of Ryu and Chun-Li.
Unsurprisingly, these unique items will only be given away via a lottery in Japan, so all we can really do is look at it and enjoy.
If all that weren’t enough, the company also released an odd AR game for mobile devices that works by scanning a bottle of THE STRONG after visiting this website.
In it, players are tasked with picking either Ryu or Chun-Li and beating up the mountain of ice covering up the bottle.

This isn’t the first time special Street Fighter games have been created to promote products like Street Fighter Pocky Edition or that time Ryu battled a stinky coat.
Although those of us in the West can’t really get into the collaboration without importing water, you can still check out the music video and AR game below.
